The commission also identified eight other institutions currently undergoing investigation for running illegal degree programs. This crucial information is intended to protect prospective students and the general public from falling victim to institutions not recognized or licensed to operate by the NUC, the body legally mandated to regulate university education in Nigeria. The first private College of Nursing Sciences in Akwa Ibom State, Maurid College of Nursing Sciences, has commenced admission into its programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. In a statement by the Registrar, Dr Tom Fredfish, the institution invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into its four-year full-time National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in General Nursing and Midwifery. According to the release, applicants must possess a minimum of five (5) credits in not more than two sittings in core science subjects—Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics—from WASSCE, SSCE, NECO, or GCE O-Level examinations.
