  Professor Samuel Gbadebo Odewunmi The University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Akwa Ibom State, has officially announced the appointment of Professor Samuel Gbadebo Odewunmi as its Acting Vice Chancellor. Professor Odewunmi, a distinguished academic from Lagos State University (LASU), steps into the role following the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo. The Appointment Details The appointment was confirmed via an official letter dated 15th December, 2025, issued by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Dr. Muiz Banire, SAN. The letter, signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs Blossom E. Okorie, noted that the decision follows the approval of the University Visitor.   Dr Uwemedimo Udo, Chairman Uyo LGA In a landmark gesture to promote academic excellence, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area and ALGON Chairman, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Uwemedimo E. Udo , has instituted a ₦500,000 annual prize for the Best Graduating Student in Chemistry at the University of Uyo. The award, which will run for 10 consecutive years, reflects Dr. Udo’s commitment to educational development and youth empowerment. This gesture is not surprising as it can be recalled that during his days as a  student, Dr Udo excelled in science competitions throughout his educational journey, culminating in his graduation as the best student in the Department of Chemistry and the Faculty of Science at the University of Uyo.
