In a testament to his dedication to both public service and academic excellence, Morgan Ekanem, a Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Law from Rivers State University.

Ekanem's achievement, which he shared in a public post on his official Facebook page, is a landmark not only for his personal career but also for the discourse on modern finance and governance in Nigeria.

The doctoral program, with a specialization in International Trade, Banking, and Finance Law, culminated in a groundbreaking thesis that tackles the complex and often misunderstood world of digital currencies. Titled "Legal Framework for Regulation of Trade and Exchange in Crypto and other Forms of Digital Currencies in Nigeria," his work provides a sophisticated roadmap for the nation to navigate the crypto landscape.

In his dissertation, Dr. Ekanem makes a compelling case for a unified and comprehensive legal regime to regulate digital assets. He argues that the current "fragmented regulations" from agencies like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are inadequate. Drawing lessons from forward-thinking jurisdictions like El Salvador and Japan, his research presents a draft bill that could be adopted by the National Assembly to end the regulatory ambiguity and unlock significant revenue streams through taxation.

Beyond the economic implications, his work highlights a critical social issue: the "ignorant" and unfair stereotyping of legitimate digital asset service providers as "Yahoo boys" by some law enforcement officers. His thesis aims to create a clear legal distinction that protects innovators and entrepreneurs in the burgeoning digital economy.

The academic accomplishment also resonates with his role as the Chancellor and Founder of the More Leadership Academy in Uyo. His journey, which he noted was inspired by the unwavering support of Governor Umo Eno, serves as a powerful message to young Nigerians: "IT IS POSSIBLE IF YOU ARE DETERMINED, DISCIPLINED AND FOCUSED."
