Academic Activities Begin at Federal College of Education, Ididep


The Federal College of Education, Ididep, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, has officially opened its doors to its first cohort of students. This milestone comes just two years after its establishment in 2023 by the late President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. 

With over 300 students now on campus, the institution is bustling with academic activity, marking a new era for teacher training in the region. This formal launch follows a successful resource verification in April 2024 by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), which approved twenty programs across six schools. The college is now also registered with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), ensuring a seamless admission process for prospective students.



The institution boasts over 140 academic and 100 non-academic staff, ready to support the diverse student body. The approved schools, which include Education, Languages, Arts and Science, Vocational and Technical Education, Early Childhood Education, and Science, offer a wide variety of academic paths that prepare students for the demands of the modern educational landscape.


The successful commencement of activities at the Federal College of Education, Ididep, is a significant development for both Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria's education sector as a whole. It provides a vital new institution dedicated to training qualified educators, addressing a critical need in the nation's push for educational advancement. 

This achievement not only benefits current students and staff but also promises to have a lasting, positive impact on the quality of education for future generations.
