  Dr Uwemedimo Udo, Chairman Uyo LGA In a landmark gesture to promote academic excellence, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area and ALGON Chairman, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Uwemedimo E. Udo , has instituted a ₦500,000 annual prize for the Best Graduating Student in Chemistry at the University of Uyo. The award, which will run for 10 consecutive years, reflects Dr. Udo’s commitment to educational development and youth empowerment. This gesture is not surprising as it can be recalled that during his days as a  student, Dr Udo excelled in science competitions throughout his educational journey, culminating in his graduation as the best student in the Department of Chemistry and the Faculty of Science at the University of Uyo.

  The Visitor to Akwa Ibom State University and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, has approved the appointment of Professor Otoabasi Akpan as the Acting Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU). Until his appointment, Prof. Akpan served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of the institution, a position in which he demonstrated sterling leadership and deep commitment to academic excellence. His elevation is seen as a step towards strengthening the university’s core mandate of teaching, research and community development. Congratulations to him. 

Nigerian Government Raises Scholarship Grants by 50% in Sweeping Reform

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has initiated its most ambitious scholarship overhaul in over a decade, announcing a 50% increase in grants for students across all academic levels. The reform, a cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, is a strategic investment in youth development and a direct response to rising educational costs. This move is designed to enhance merit-based access and prioritize fields critical to Nigeria's economic future. The new structure significantly boosts financial support for students. Doctoral candidates will now receive ₦750,000 annually, up from ₦500,000, while Master's students will receive ₦600,000, an increase from ₦400,000.   A new chapter for student innovation began at Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Entrepreneurial Development Centre. The project, sponsored entirely by Amaecom Global Limited as a corporate social responsibility initiative, was officiated by the company's founder, Marcel Ofomata, and the university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nse Essien. This centre aims to empower students with the essential skills and resources to thrive as future business leaders. The new facility follows a pledge made by Ofomata on April 9th, 2025, during the "Leadership and Entrepreneurial Summit."
