KASU Conference Advocates for AI Integration and Curriculum Reform

The 3rd International Research Culture Conference, hosted by Kaduna State University (KASU) from September 4th to 6th, 2025, put a sharp focus on the critical need for Nigerian higher education to adapt to the future. A central theme that emerged was the call for a fundamental curriculum reform to include AI development and more practical skills.

The conference's keynote speaker, Dr. Ibrahim Labaran Ali from the University of Warwick, delivered a paper that discussed the role of higher education in developing AI sovereignty for Nigeria. This call to action was a major takeaway, urging institutions like KASU to overhaul their programs to produce graduates who are not just knowledgeable but also equipped with the skills necessary to innovate in a technology-driven world.

Other key presentations, including one on effective literature reviews by Prof. Hawa'u E. Yusuf, further emphasized the importance of refining academic practices to be more efficient and relevant. The event, which also addressed the challenge of fostering a vibrant research culture despite funding limitations, concluded with a reaffirmation of the university's commitment to advancing research and academic discourse.

The conference ultimately served as a vital platform for dialogue, positioning KASU at the forefront of the conversation about modernizing education to meet the demands of the future.
